Unit conversion is the process of expressing a measurement in a different unit while maintaining the same quantity. Whether you're working on an international project that uses metric measurements, cooking with a recipe from another country, calculating storage requirements for a server, or converting between time zones, having a reliable conversion tool at hand saves time and prevents costly mistakes. This tool supports instant conversions across eight categories covering the most commonly needed measurement types.

Supported Categories
- Length – Convert between meters, feet, inches, centimeters, millimeters, kilometers, miles, yards, and nautical miles. Essential for construction, engineering, travel, and everyday measurements. Quick reference: 1 meter ≈ 3.28 feet, 1 mile ≈ 1.61 kilometers, 1 inch = 2.54 centimeters.
- Weight/Mass – Convert between kilograms, pounds, ounces, grams, milligrams, stones, and metric tons. Used in cooking, shipping, fitness, and scientific applications. Quick reference: 1 kilogram ≈ 2.205 pounds, 1 ounce ≈ 28.35 grams, 1 stone = 14 pounds.
- Temperature – Convert between Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin. Unlike other conversions that use simple multiplication, temperature conversions involve both multiplication and addition (or subtraction), making them particularly useful to have automated. Quick reference: 0°C = 32°F = 273.15K, 100°C = 212°F.
- Volume – Convert between liters, gallons (US), cups, milliliters, fluid ounces, pints, quarts, and tablespoons. Critical for cooking, baking, and any application involving liquids. Note that US and Imperial gallons differ — a US gallon is approximately 3.785 liters, while an Imperial gallon is approximately 4.546 liters.
- Area – Convert between square meters, square feet, acres, hectares, square kilometers, and square miles. Used in real estate, agriculture, landscaping, and land management. Quick reference: 1 acre ≈ 43,560 square feet ≈ 4,047 square meters, 1 hectare = 10,000 square meters.
- Speed – Convert between miles per hour, kilometers per hour, meters per second, knots, and feet per second. Useful for travel, navigation, weather (wind speed), and physics calculations. Quick reference: 1 mph ≈ 1.609 km/h, 1 knot ≈ 1.151 mph.
- Data Storage – Convert between bytes, kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes, terabytes, and petabytes. Essential for IT professionals calculating storage needs, bandwidth requirements, and file sizes. Uses the standard binary definitions where 1 KB = 1,024 bytes, 1 MB = 1,024 KB, and so on — the convention used by operating systems and storage devices.
- Time – Convert between seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months (average 30.44 days), and years (365.25 days). Useful for project planning, scheduling, and scientific calculations. Quick reference: 1 day = 86,400 seconds, 1 year ≈ 8,766 hours.
Why We Built This Tool
As an IT professional, I regularly need to convert between data storage units when sizing servers and planning storage, and between other measurement types when working with international vendors and documentation. Most online converters are cluttered with ads and pop-ups that make them frustrating to use for quick lookups.
